Native Flowers

Sri Lanka is home to a diverse range of native flowers, many of which are integral to the country’s culture and biodiversity. Prominent examples include the vibrant blue water lily, the national flower of Sri Lanka, and the striking lotus. These native species not only add beauty to the landscape but also play vital ecological roles in local ecosystems.

カドゥプルの花

カドゥプルの花 (Epiphyllum oxypetalum) もスリランカ産の美しく珍しい花で、白黄色で直径 10 ～ 30 cm ほどに成長し、心地よい香りを放ちます。カドゥプルの花植物はサボテン科の種で、学名は Epiphyllum oxypetalum です。

陸生植物ですが、着生として木などに取りついて生育することもありますが、絶対に寄生するわけではありません。スリランカ、インド、南米諸国などでよく生育しています。。スリランカの熱帯雨林に広く生息しており、現在では庭園の観賞用植物として栽培されています。花は国によって異なる名前があり、夜の女王、月から来た花などもその一部です。スリランカはカドゥプル・マルまたは天からの花と呼ばれ、インドはブラフマ・カマルと呼ばれます。
