ディクウィーはスリランカで伝統的に栽培されている中粒赤米品種で、草丈は最大150cmまで成長します。種まきから4~4ヶ月半で収穫できます。熟す段階では、植物の茎は淡い青みがかった色になります。 1株あたりの分げつ数は10~12で、他の伝統的な米品種と比べて非常に多いです。倒伏に強く、1エーカーあたり80~85ブッシェルの収量があり、高い商品価値を持っています。湿潤地帯で栽培される人気の品種です。研究により、炎症、糖尿病、、神経疾患、コレステロール、酸化ストレスの治療に役立つ薬効成分の存在が示されています。ふすまを一緒に摂取することは、このような貴重な栄養と薬効を得る上で重要です。
