マタラ地区
マタラは、コロンボから 160 km 離れたスリランカの南海岸にある町です。スリランカ最大の都市の一つです。この町にはスリランカの名残がたくさんある?植民地時代の過去は島によって分断されているのでしょうか? 3番目に長い川、ニルワラ・ガンガー?ブルーリバーだよね?旧市街と新市街を分ける美しく広い水域。
16 世紀から 18 世紀にかけて、マータラはポルトガル人とオランダ人によって統治されました。この地域では今でも文化や建築を見ることができます。ポイント ドンドラの人気の灯台はオランダ人によって建てられ、スリランカで最も美しく最も古い灯台の1 つと考えられています。マータラは、忙しく、活況を呈し、繁栄している商業都市ですが、観光のおかげで、現代のスリランカの生活を知ることができる魅力的な窓に変わります。マータラの主な観光スポットは、城壁、オランダ建築、保存状態の良い要塞、街並みです。
パラヴィ ドゥパサ寺院は、町の正面にあるピジョン島(沖合の小さな島) にある比較的近代的な仏教寺院です。この橋には、2008 年に建設された (2004 年の津波で流された以前の橋に代わって) エレガントな斜張歩道橋が架かっています。この寺院は魅力的な庭園の中にあり、多数の仏像といわゆるアダムズ ピークの足跡のレプリカが安置されています。
マタラ要塞は 1560 年にポルトガル人によって建設され、ゴール占領後の 1640 年にオランダ人によって大幅に再建されました。大きな石の城壁で構成されたこの砦は、ニワラ川のラグーンと海の間の岬にあります。
オランダ改革派教会マータラは、1706 年にオランダ人によってマータラ要塞に建てられました。1762 年に要塞が再建された後、1767 年に大規模な改築が行われました。
スター フォートはナワリ川の西側、つまり陸地に囲まれた側にあります。この砦は、1761 年のマータラの反乱の後、主要な砦を川の攻撃から守るためにオランダ人によって建設されました。 1765 年に、ユニークな星型の砦の建設が完了しました。
オールド ヌペ マーケットは、マータラ要塞から約 3.2 キロメートル (2.0 マイル) の場所に、オランダ人によって 1784 年に建てられました。
セント メアリー教会はビーチ ロードにあります。門の日付 (1769 年) は、1762 年のマータラ反乱後に門が再建されたことを示しています。
